As Fathers ventured into the highly anticipated Magiya Tournament, their journey was abruptly cut short in a heart-wrenching encounter with Boko Haram. The match showcased intense excitement and character from both teams, culminating in a 1-1 draw. However, in the dying minutes of the second half, Boko Haram secured a decisive goal outside the 18-yard area, ultimately winning the match 2-1.
Earlier, on December 10, 2023, Fathers faced Moletsane Veterans in a challenging away league game. Unfortunately, the team faltered, succumbing to a 3-0 defeat, a setback attributed to poor attendance.
Amidst the trials on the field, Fathers celebrated a significant milestone – their 10th anniversary. The club hosted a successful awards day, honoring outstanding players and team members. The event attracted widespread attendance, with support from Yogeta, who added a special touch by making it a family-oriented affair. Children enjoyed jumping castles and water slides, while a friendly match between the management team and fans ended in a draw. Even the penalties could not settle it, as they also ended in a 4-all draw.
Demonstrating their commitment to community engagement, Fathers actively participated in two charitable events. On December 22, 2023, they supported the Doornkop Children’s Charity event. The following day, they sponsored and participated in the Put a Smile initiative, bringing joy to the children of Thulani.
The club further extended its support to one of its own players, Oscar Oskido Mohohlo. Oscar, coaching a younger team from Thulani, led them to the Kwa Mahlobo Sports Grounds Festive games. Despite a rain-induced postponement of the final to January 9, 2024, Oscar’s team emerged victorious, clinching both the tournament and individual player awards.
The new year brought another league challenge for Fathers on January 14, 2024, against Zola United Legends. Despite the players being well-prepared after a two-week training period post-holidays, the team narrowly lost 2-1 in a closely contested match.
As Fathers continues its journey, the blend of triumphs and challenges serves as a testament to the team’s resilience, commitment to community involvement, and unwavering spirit on and off the field.
