Obaba climbed to seventh place after a 2-1 victory over Charmers Masters on August 20, 2023, at Emdeni Drie Hoek.
Unsurprisingly, Sibusiso Sbugazi Ngema continued his recent scoring streak by scoring the game’s first goal in the first 20 minutes. He brings his total to five goals in 12 games.
Nkosingiphile Mphile Mdlanyoka, an unlikely source, soon followed by scoring Obaba’s second goal. He accomplishes this brilliantly by hitting a volley. In his six-year tenure with the club, this was his first goal in team colors.
He was named Man of the Match two matches ago against Molapo Masters, so he is on a roll. We can only hope we will not have to wait another six years for the next goal. “There’s something wrong here; my goal should count as five goals,” Mphile humorously pointed out.
We were running wild over them, with our supporters cheering us on.
Despite the upbeat atmosphere and excitement, Mduduzi Bra-Mdu Masiba day was cut short by an injury, which forced him to be replaced by Bongani Njection Maduna. Simanga Dihno Magubane was brought in as a technical substitution for Mandla Poposhie Mlangeni.
The team went into halftime with a 2-0 lead. Another forced substitution was made for Molatudi Fish Malahlela, who became ill with a stomach bug. Mandla was replaced by Mosiuwa, who was set to make ten appearances.
Charmers Masters came back a little stronger in the second half, but they only managed to score one goal.
Obaba’s lead was maintained until the man in the center blew his whistle three times, signaling the end of the match.
This victory moves us up to the seventh spot on the log, up from the eighth spot we held for the previous five weeks.
The league will take a two-week break to accommodate the tournament matches.
We have two friendly matches scheduled over the next two weeks…
- Fathers Football Club vs. Tshwaranang Football Club
- Bolo Fathers Football Club vs. Fathers Football Club
Despite the fact that these are friendly, we will need to perform well to keep the momentum going.
With 11 games remaining, they are 4 points away from second place and 16 points away from first place. We still have two games against first-place Moletsane Veterans to close the gap to ten points.
Please come to support Oaba Babo, as we always humbly ask.
