Obaba sets a new record, after the win!

Obaba Babo secured our sixth win in a row, in a KFSL League game after a hard-fought victory against lowly placed Sebokeng Masters with a 5-3 win away at Evaton, Evaton North Artificial Field.

Obaba sets a new record, after the win!

Bonginkosi JD Hlophe & Simanga Sgubudu Shabalala gave us the perfect start when they scored within 10 minutes of the first half,

while the hosts provided an intermittent threat in the first half – particularly as the break drew closer – Obaba held on until the stoppage time. This makes it a new league record for Fathers as they have never won 5 consecutive matches before in the league.

Match – Report

Both sides made double changes, stemming the flow of the contest temporarily, but it was Paul Bricks Lekgetho’s alterations that proved immediately effective.

What seemed like would be another victory for Obaba Babo, the hosts came out strongly after the interval, it was a blow-by-blow kind of turnout in the second half, as the Sebokeng Masters put 1 in within 2 minutes of the second-half kick-off.
Bongani Njection Maduna scored our 3rd one for the day to make it 3-1. Sebokeng’s player was brought down in the box, and they converted the resulting penalty before Bhekinkosi Thandeka put in a fourth minutes later to make it 4-2. When we thought that the match was sealed, Sebokeng scored another one and made it 4-3, to make it a photo-finish encounter, an edge-of-a-seat kind of encounter. JD came through in the dying minutes to guarantee us yet another 3 points on the road and made it 5 wins in a row. This is JD’s first brace for the team, we can only hope that there are more braces where this one came from, this brings his tally to 4 goals this season.

The reverse fixture that we played against them in 2021/09/26 produced the same results with Phumlani “Mfene” Mdluli scoring 4 goals. This match came after Sebokeng’s poor results that saw them having not won a match in 9 matches. This loss has made that run spread to 10 matches.

On the other hand, this is Obaba’s 6th win successively and 8 games without a loss since the 4-1 defeat to NDT in the Top 4 tournament.

Our next league match is against Zola United Legends, which are placed in 8th place with 3 points separating us (at the time of this article when it was made).
A win here will guarantee us getting back in the Top 8, while we fight to break the Top 6 for the first time ever in our history in this league.

Join us next week at our home ground, Bonamelo Primary School, when we host Zola United.
