Protea Glen extends our misery

Yet we hit another slump as Protea Glen Extension 4 Masters sent us packing at the KFSL Top 16 knockout at Diepkloof Zone 5.

They put two past us, with us retaliating with just one. We were looking to turn our fortunes around, but luck had already chosen its side for the day.

Match – Report

Early in the match, Jerry “Ta-Jerry” Buthelezi had to be substituted as he was injured. The change had to be made in just under 5 minutes of play in the first half. Oscar Oskido Mohohlo came in for Jerry on his debut since joining the team early this year.

The forced substitution destabilized the team a bit; this is seen immediately by conceding two goals in quick succession. We were on the back foot in the early stages of the match.

But as the match progressed, we found our rhythm but couldn’t convert our chances. We held our own until halftime, with the score being 2-0 going into halftime. Coach Mduduzi “Ta-Mdu” Sithebe made one change at halftime, with Poposhi being substituted for Mdlanyoka.

The coach conveyed a stern message. As a result, Obaba came out guns blazing. We pulled one back via Simanga Sgubudu Shabalala with a pass from our debutant, Oscar.

Later on in the match, Simiso “Sonic” Mbele   came on for Maxwell “Mexican Chillie” Mokgatle as we were throwing everything we had at them. Sonic did get a chance in front of the goal but couldn’t convert on the day. On another day, he would have buried it. That summed up our day, as the ref called it, with the score being 2-1.

This coming weekend, we are back to the league’s duties. We will try to get back to the Top 6 that we found ourselves in.
