Kwa-Bobo | Thulani | Soweto | Soweto Masters Super League
The crucial victory arrived just when we needed it most, marking a significant turning point for us.
We came out swinging this weekend and delivered a dominant 5–0 win over 1852 Masters. From kickoff to final whistle, Obaba showed hunger, structure, and ruthless finishing. The message was clear: we’ve only won 2 of our last 5 matches, losing 3, including a frustrating 1–0 defeat to Lala Vuka to close out September. We promised our fans we’d start October guns blazing, and we did exactly that.
Coach Madumane made five bold changes to the lineup. In the front four, only one switch was made; Crouch came in for Mosiuwa to join Sgubudu, Gaucho, and Bandile. It was a gamble that paid off. Crouch, who hadn’t featured since our 3–1 loss to Ay’donsi in April, marked his third cap with the opening goal of the season.
In midfield, Nengo was paired with Becks, replacing Smindlo from the previous match. That duo formed a solid first wall of defense, helping secure the clean sheet and bringing much-needed stability.
At the back, Max remained but welcomed Sonic, Thabo, and Bheki into the defensive line. With our wingbacks given license to attack, Bheki made it count, netting his first goal of the season and adding to the two he scored last campaign.
Between the posts, Khumalo, our August Player of the Month, was trusted again. With Akani still sidelined and Rooi now playing infield, Khumalo was the clear choice. He’s now on 25 caps this season, compared to Rooi’s 7 and Akani’s 4.
Madumane also made a first-half substitution, replacing Bandile with Rooi. Bandile’s form has dipped, scoring just 4 goals in 23 matches. His goal ratio sits at 0.17, placing him 9th on the scorers chart. Sgubudu was deservedly named Man of the Match after a standout performance, scoring a brilliant brace and delivering a pinpoint assist that helped seal the emphatic victory.
To seal the victory, Jerry and OBJ stepped up to safeguard our achievements. With this being OBJ’s 11th appearance of the season, his patience through his time on the sidelines has finally paid off, and now he is truly shining.
We’re sitting 7th with 8 games to go. The mission is clear: climb higher, finish stronger, and secure our place among the elite.
Fans and players are watching a Carling Cup match.
Off the pitch, the league confirmed a major update: Champions League qualification now includes the top 8 teams, up from 7. Confederation Cup slots shift to positions 9 and 10. That puts us inside the Champions League zone, but we’re not here to scrape through. We’re here to climb.
This win and every match ahead is a must-win. If we’re serious about cementing a top 8 finish and bringing back the glory days, we need to stay locked in and relentless.
The fans felt it. From the sidelines to the socials, the response was electric. Many praised the intensity, sharpness, and hunger on display. We saw it. We heard it. And we’re carrying that energy forward.
This adjustment means that we currently sit within the Champions League qualification zone. While the team is safe for now, the mission remains clear: climb higher, finish stronger, and secure a top-tier berth with authority.
“We’re grateful for the unwavering support from our fans. Your energy fuels our fight. With eight games to go, we’re focused, hungry, and aiming for a productive month ahead,” said club leadership.
To our supporters, thank you. Your belief fuels our fight. October is ours to own. Let’s make it count.
Obaba Babo!
