In our final home fixture of the Soweto Masters Super League 2015 season, Fathers F.C. produced a scintillating performance, dismantling Vuka Damara 6–1 in front of a passionate KwaBobo crowd. The emphatic win was not only a statement of intent but also a heartfelt gesture of appreciation to our loyal supporters who have stood by us all season.
The fans came out in numbers, and they were rewarded with a masterclass display, led by Obaba Babo, who delivered a performance of a lifetime, one that will be remembered for years to come.
First-Half Brilliance
- Ashley Gaddafi Mothemane opened the scoring in the second minute, finishing off a clever overlap assist from Thabo Sthibo Swarts.
- Our captain Bongani PabloEscobar Shelembe doubled the lead in the 30th minute, courtesy of Mexican Chillie Mokgatle’s pinpoint delivery.
- Five minutes later, defender Bhekinkosi Thandeka turned provider, setting up Simanga Dihno Magubane for our third goal
Second-Half Dominance
- Just after halftime, Bhekinkosi struck again with another assist, this time for Simanga Sgubudu Shabalala, making it 4–0 after the break.
- Thabo returned with a thunderous long-range strike after a cleared corner, leaving the opposition goalkeeper stranded.
- Lerato Becks Tlhabane, October’s Player of the Month, sealed the victory with our sixth goal, capping off a commanding display.
By the final whistle, our defenders had contributed seven goal involvements, five assists, and two goals, perfectly executing Coach Dumisani Majarha Makhubu’s tactical vision of wingbacks pushing forward and delivering crosses.
Defensive Steel
While the attacking play stole the headlines, the backline was equally impressive.
- Mafika Rooi Phungwayo marshalled the defense with vocal authority, ensuring discipline and structure.
- Max and Bongani Njection Maduna continued their fine form, showing consistency and resilience.
Midfield Engine
The pairing of Becks and Papa once again proved lethal, combining speed, power, and intelligence.
- Becks covered every blade of grass, breaking plays and inspiring teammates.
- Papa brought calmness and precision, distributing his trademark outer passes with accuracy. Together, they shared two goals and an assist, with Papa earning his second consecutive Man of the Match award.
Frontline Effort
The attacking quartet featured Bandile, returning after a month’s absence, alongside Sgubudo, Gaucho, and Gaddafi.
- Bandile Maphumulo worked tirelessly off the ball, making runs and finding spaces despite not scoring.
- Gaddafi’s pace and movement unsettled the defense.
- Gaucho’s dribbling opened gaps for killer passes.
- Sgubudo linked midfield and attack seamlessly, delivering a stellar performance.
Technical Team & Future Outlook
The technical bench welcomed Sizwe Barnes Buthelezi as the third member, bringing valuable experience to the setup. With preparations underway for the Champions League clash against Zondi Masters, Coach Madumane’s side looks well‑positioned to carry this momentum forward.
League Position & Next Steps
This victory lifted Fathers FC back to 6th place, ending the “#15 Points Loading: The Final Push Begins” campaign after the setback against Diepkloof Masters. A win against Limpopo Masters in the final fixture could secure 6th spot, our best finish ever, and potentially push us to 4th place depending on other results involving Ndofaya United and Lala Vuka.
Gratitude to Supporters
We extend heartfelt thanks to our faithful supporters for their unwavering love throughout the season. One match remains before we close off the campaign, and with performances like this, the future looks bright for Fathers Football Club.
