Weekend enkulu!

We have a big 3-day weekend as we face NDT Legends in the Ginoor Community Games 2023 Top 8 at Joburg City Ground, Tshiawelo, at 13:30.

The last time we won a major tournament was when we won the Protea Glen J&Q 2021 Top 8.

Two years is a long time for a team that wants to be counted among the best in the business.

This is a three-day tournament that starts tomorrow, June 16. Eight teams will battle it out. The last four will proceed to the semifinals on Saturday, June 17, with the grand final being played out on Sunday, June 18.

If the football gods are on our side, and hopefully they will be on our side, we will play four matches in three days. The fourth match will be that of our league match, which will take place on Sunday at 11:00, with the Top 8 final scheduled for 12:00 on the same day.

Our first match is against the team because we have this love-hate relationship with them. This will be a grudge match and a decider, if you want to call it that. We have already played NDT Legends four times in the past two years. First time ever meeting was at a Top 16 Final at Mdeni, Kwa-Magiya, they drubbed us 3-1. The second meeting was when we had the better of them by revenging on the final day by winning the Protea Glen J&Q 2021 Top 8. With our third meeting being another Top 8 in 2021 as well, we were the better team by winning 1-0 with a goal from Simangaliso “Sgubudu” Shabalala. Our fourth and recent one was when they gave us a 4-1 hiding earlier this year. Tomorrow will definitely see one getting the better of another.

A 10-game unbeaten run and eight consecutive wins continue is what we are bringing to this match, with our opponent having lost their past 4 league matches. Soccer is a very cruel game, so this stat won’t matter or mean anything when these two great teams meet. Expect fireworks as always!

Now, with all of this in mind we had dubbed this weekend the biggest weekend that our team has ever been involved in. And surely support will be needed from all corners, wherever our faithful supporters are.

We are hoping that come Sunday evening, our 10-match unbeaten run will be on 14, with 12 consecutive wins.
