What was meant to be a focused build‑up towards our home fixture against Fleurhof Rangers took a heartbreaking turn on Friday, 08 May. The Soweto Masters Super League family received devastating news that its Vice Chairman, Tshepo Mnguni, had passed away in the early hours of the morning.
Tshepo was not just an administrator, he was a founder, a pillar, and one of the driving forces behind the league’s growth and identity. His contribution was immense, his presence steady, and his passion undeniable. His passing leaves a void that will be felt across every ground, every team, and every conversation that shaped this league.
In honor of his life and legacy, the league postponed all fixtures to a date yet to be confirmed. As Fathers FC, we stand with the Mnguni family, the league leadership, and the entire Masters community during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.
As we move on to the business of the weekend, Obaba now turn their focus back to the pitch with a demanding run of fixtures ahead, we shift our attention to the footballing duties that await us with renewed purpose and unity.
SATURDAY — MASHOBANE GAMES
Fathers FC vs Football Club Piana Piana
📍 Munsieville ⏱️ 15:25 Kick‑off
Our history with Piana Piana is still young, but every meeting so far has shown that they are not a team to be taken lightly. Earlier this year, one of our fixtures was washed out by heavy rain, denying both teams a chance to measure themselves properly. The only other encounter came in the Mashobane Games Top 4, where Obaba edged out a narrow 1–0 victory, a match defined by discipline, patience, and a single moment of quality that separated the sides.
Piana Piana are a side built on structure. They don’t rush, they don’t panic, and they rarely give away cheap chances. Their defensive shape is compact, their midfield works in tight triangles, and they force you to earn every inch of space. They are organized, disciplined, and difficult to break down, the kind of opponent that punishes any lapse in concentration.
But Obaba comes into this clash with a different kind of fire. Two weeks without competitive action has sharpened the hunger, not dulled it. The team has been itching to get back onto the pitch, to feel the rhythm of the game again, and to remind the tournament why Fathers Football Club remains one of the most respected sides in the Masters circuit.
This weekend’s meeting promises to be another tight contest, a game of margins, where patience, precision, and tactical maturity will matter. With fresh legs and renewed focus after the unexpected break, Obaba steps into Munsieville ready to show that even after two weeks without action, the identity of this team remains intact.
SUNDAY — SOWETO MASTERS SUPER LEAGUE
📍 Orlando, Ground 2 ⏱️ League Fixture
This is one of those fixtures that consistently demands the very best from both sides. The last three meetings between Fathers FC and OG Harmony have produced a perfectly balanced record, one win each and one draw, with every match decided by the narrowest of margins, either 2–1 or 1–1. It’s a rivalry defined by tight spaces, tactical discipline, and moments of precision rather than chaos. As things stand, Fathers FC sit in 5th place with 11 points, while OG Harmony occupy 8th with 9 points, setting the stage for a true six‑pointer.
A victory for OG Harmony could see Obaba drop as far as 8th, while a win for Fathers FC has the potential to propel us all the way up to 2nd place. With so much movement possible on the log, this fixture becomes more than just another league match, it becomes a test of ambition, focus, and how badly each team wants to shape the direction of their season.
A Weekend That Will Shape Our Season
Two weeks without football. Two matches in two days. Two competitions demanding every ounce of discipline, fitness, and mentality from the squad. This is the kind of weekend that exposes a team’s true character, where preparation meets pressure and where every player must dig deeper than comfort allows. It’s in moments like these that Obaba’s identity is tested: the unseen work at training, the unity in the dressing room, and the pride carried in every tackle and every run.
These are the weekends that separate teams that participate from teams that compete. And knowing Fathers FC, this is exactly the kind of challenge that brings out their best. Obaba rises when the moment calls, and this moment is calling loudly.
To Our Supporters
As always, we call on our loyal supporters to stand with us, now more than ever. Your presence lifts the team, your voices carry us through the toughest moments, and your energy fuels every run, every tackle, every breath. Obaba takes on that pitch. This weekend is bigger than football. It’s a moment to honour a man who helped build the very league we compete in.
Let’s show up for the badge. Let’s show up for the team. Let’s show up for Tshepo Mnguni.
Let our unity be the tribute. Let our spirit be the celebration of his life. And let our presence remind everyone that when Fathers Football Club walks onto the field, they never walk alone.

Fathers FC promised fire, and fire is exactly what they delivered.
After publicly declaring their intention to break the long-standing hoodoo against Amabujwa finally, Obaba Babo stepped onto the pitch with purpose, hunger, and a point to prove. And in the 50th minute, the breakthrough arrived, Chacklas threading a brilliant assist to Gaddafi, who calmly slotted home the only goal of the match.
A goal that meant more than just three points. A goal that closed a painful chapter. A goal was announced: Fathers Football Club is rebuilding and rising.
With Njection suspended after his red card against Amayiga and Mandla unavailable, the Technical Team, now reinforced by Barnes returning for another stint, was forced into bold tactical decisions. The biggest shift saw Captain Papa move back into center‑back, the position he first occupied when he joined the club, partnering with Khumalo, who had featured as a CDM in the previous match.
This adjustment opened space for Spha and Jerry to operate as a double pivot in midfield: Jerry, who has had limited minutes this season, and Spha, who entered the match with five appearances and five losses. Trusted in a high‑pressure clash against a Top 8 opponent, both rose to the occasion, with Spha securing his first-ever Fathers FC victory despite missing a penalty, a performance full of maturity, composure, and promise.
Up front, the Technical Team placed their trust in a trio of players who, despite not being regular starters, have had limited minutes this season: Chacklas, Mosiuwa, and Lesego. Between them, they had only eight total caps, with Mosiuwa holding half of those, yet they were entrusted with leading the line in a match where three points were non‑negotiable.
Lesego was withdrawn early in the 22nd minute for Gaddafi, who later scored the decisive goal, while Mosiuwa followed in the second half. Chacklas, after providing the assist for the winner, was also substituted later in the match. For a group still fighting for consistent game time, it was a strong showing, not a bad day for the trio at all.
As the match wore on, Amabujwa pushed aggressively for an equalizer, throwing numbers forward and testing the resolve of Obaba Babo. Instead of retreating to protect the narrow 1–0 lead, the Technical Team responded with bold, attacking substitutions, introducing Bandile in the forward line and Nengo in the CAM role.
It was a clear statement of intent: this was not a team trying to survive the pressure but one determined to bury the opponent and chase a second goal. Bandile alone found himself with three golden opportunities to extend the lead, further highlighting the team’s commitment to pound‑for‑pound football rather than defensive desperation. In the end, the bravery and ambition of the TT paid off, securing a well‑earned victory.
April closed with a return to steady progress for Fathers, delivering two wins, one draw, and one loss, not perfect, not vintage Obaba Babo, but clear evidence that Coach Madumane’s rebuild is taking shape. The team showed improved structure, resilience, and growing confidence, highlighted by Papa’s standout performances that earned him back‑to‑back Player of the Match accolades, a testament to his leadership and consistency.
With momentum building and the squad beginning to settle into its new identity, the club will announce the Player of the Month tomorrow before the match against Ndofaya United, marking another positive step in this ongoing phase of growth.
Obaba Babo now turns their focus to Ndofaya United, another side we have yet to defeat, having faced them twice with one loss and one draw. Ndofaya currently sits 10th on the log with a mixed run of form: one win, two draws, and two losses in their last five matches, including a chaotic 6–6 draw against Dube Masters.
They have scored 14 goals and conceded 15 in that period, a record that shows their ability to both threaten and leak goals in equal measure. It’s a fixture that promises intensity and unpredictability, and with Obaba in a vengeful mood after breaking the Amabujwa hoodoo, the team will be eager to finally secure their first victory over Ndofaya United..
The supporters once again played a vital role, lifting the team with their presence, their voices, and their unwavering belief in the rebuild taking shape. Your energy carried Obaba Babo through another defining performance, and as the journey continues, we call on you to come out in numbers once more. The team is rising, the momentum is building, and we want our community beside us every step of the way.
Obaba Babo
