Obaba Babo are back at it after a week’s rest and a weekend to forget. Coach Paul “Bricks” Lekgetho put the boys through their paces ahead of a clash against Protea Glen Extension 4 Masters at Diepkloof Zone 5 Field#2, on 02 July 2023 at 14:30.
We would be looking to forget about that weekend and quickly refocus our energy on the task at hand, which is the Top 16 fixture against the team that we have never won against.
We are not taking anything away from our recent achievement of a great 10-run unbeaten record, but you are only as good as your last match, and our last match doesn’t reflect favourable stats or results. This is because we lost to the Diepkloof All Stars by 2 goals to 1, and our counterpart won by the exact same score against the Diepkloof Giants.
We have only met the Protea Glen Extension 4 Masters in a league match, with the recent match going their way by defeating us 4-2. The other two matches were played last season and were drawn by 1 all away and 2 all in a return match.
All things considered, as much as they may be seen to have an upper hand on all fronts, we will go into this match by drawing a positive from the fact that, after the end of the first round, we are above them on the log standings; they are placed on 11th compared to the 9th position that we find ourselves in.
The defeat against Diepkloof All Stars saw us end the first round of the league in a bitter state, seeing that we had been on a roll for some time. We still have a game in hand against Moletsane Veterans.
This match was postponed due to unforeseen & unfortunate circumstances, as we lost our member, Nhlanhla “Bambas” Manga, on the same week we were due to play Moletsane Veterans.
We missed yet another opportunity a few weeks ago to win a tournament, while our long-term goal is to win the league. We will definitely go all out yet again this time around to try to bring back the glory days.
Hopefully our 2 on form strikers ( Simanga Sgubudu Shabalala and Simanga Dihno Magubane )will hit the ground running and firing on all cylinders as we need them now more than ever.
We all know what Obaba are capable of, and tomorrow might be the start of yet another 10-run undefeated streak or even more.
Obaba Babo
