A 6‑Goal Response: Obaba Unleash, Rise & Reclaim The Momentum

Coming off the honesty and self‑reflection of our previous article, we stepped onto the field with one clear intention: to respond with football, not words. And from the first whistle, that intention was loud.

Obaba Babo came out like a house on fire. Every duel was won. Every 50/50 was ours. Every challenge had a purpose. The energy felt different, sharper, hungrier, and more connected. It didn’t take long for that dominance to show on the scoreboard, with Max smashing in the opener in the 12th minute after relentless pressure.

Match – Report

Fathers FC Put on a Show! 6–1 vs Dube Masters | Soweto Masters Highlights

But football always tests your discipline. A handball by Mandla gifted Dube Masters a penalty, and they converted immediately to level the match. The response from Obaba? Pure ruthlessness. They regrouped, tightened their structure, and went into halftime with a commanding 4–1 lead.

Dube Masters opened the second half with a goal to make it 4–2, a moment that could have easily shifted the mood and invited panic. But instead of wobbling, Fathers FC showed the maturity we haven’t always seen in recent weeks. Obaba regrouped, slowed the tempo, and rebuilt control from the back. The midfield tightened its shape, the communication sharpened, and suddenly the rhythm returned.

Once the structure settled, the response was emphatic.

They didn’t just defend, they led and expanded it. Wave after wave of pressure forced Dube Masters deeper, and eventually the breakthrough came. Two well‑worked goals followed, stretching the scoreline to 6–2 and reminding everyone exactly who was dictating the match. The movement off the ball was sharper, the passing cleaner, and the confidence unmistakable.

Dube Masters managed to pull one back late to make it 6–3, but by then the game was already written. The dominance, the hunger, the football, it was all Fathers FC.

A performance burning with intent from the first whistle. A result that let the whole community breathe again. A win we’ve been chasing for too long was finally claimed with full conviction and taken with both hands, a welcomed victory that pushed us from 11th into 9th place on the log.

A DAY OF GOALS & A DAY OF HONOUR

Player of the Month (January): LERATO “BECKS” TLHABANE

Lerato walked away with the Player of the Month award for January, a recognition that speaks to far more than just his performances. It honors his discipline, his voice in the midfield, his ability to control the tempo, and the standard he sets every time he steps onto the pitch. His two assists during the month were a perfect reflection of his influence, not just playing football but shaping it.

And even on match day, he reminded everyone why he earned this award, delivering three assists and stamping his authority all over the game. This wasn’t a surprise. It was overdue. Becks has been the heartbeat of the team, and January was his masterpiece.

Man of the Match: BONGANI “PABLOESCOBAR” SHELEMBE

On the day, the standout performer was Papa, and his display was written long before kickoff. Moments before the match, Coach Madumane pulled him aside and told him plainly, “Lead from the front and inspire the whole team.” Papa didn’t just accept that challenge, he embodied it. His work rate, his goals, and his presence lifted the entire team, and he walked away with a fully deserved Man of the Match award.

This was not just another accolade. It was his seventh Man of the Match in Fathers FC history, a club record no one even comes close to. Add to that his two Player of the Month awards, and it’s clear why he is automatically in the running for the April award as well. With every Man of the Match performance counting toward the monthly nominations, he has already placed himself firmly in the conversation. Now we wait to see if he adds yet another honour to his growing legacy.

THE COACH’S VIEW: A WIN WITH WORK STILL TO DO

Coach Madumane didn’t hide his mixed emotions after the match.

He celebrated the victory, especially after seven games without one, but he was clear about the standards the team must uphold. Conceding three goals at home didn’t sit well with him, and neither did the missed chances that could have turned this into an even bigger statement.

“We need to be lethal in front of the poles,” he said. “And we cannot allow soft goals. Not at this level.”

The message is simple: Enjoy the win. Fix the mistakes. Stay hungry.

NEXT UP: AMAYIGA MASTERS, NO ROOM FOR COMPLACENCY

This week we travel to Diepkloof to face Amayiga Masters, a side sitting 15th on the log with no wins to their name. History favours us, they’ve never beaten us. The closest they came was a tense 0–0 draw at Kwa‑Bobo in the Top 16, a match we eventually won 4–2 on penalties.

But past results mean nothing now. Every match is a clean slate, every opponent demands respect, and every point must be earned. Treating this fixture like a walkover would be reckless, we’re going there to graft, to fight, and to push the momentum we’ve just created even further.

TO OUR SUPPORTERS

Your joy after the final whistle said everything. The goals, the energy, the performance, you felt it. And once again, you lifted this team when it mattered most. Thank you for your patience, your presence, and your belief. The road is long, and the work goes on, but we are all in this together as one club, one family, and one Fathers Football Club.
